Ninety entries have been received for the opening round of the Victorian and NSW Rally Championship, the Mitta Mountain Rally.

In what is by far the most entries ever received for the event, the field number was initially increased from 60 to 70, and has since been upped from 70 to 80.

That means that 10 competitors are still without a start, although it is to be expected that some of those on the list will withdraw before the rally starts on March 4.

According to event organisers, the larger field is not expected to cause issues with roads in the forest, but will require the cooperation of crews to maintain a smoothly operating service park.

The Mitta Mountain Rally is based at Mitta Mitta in north east Victoria, not far from the recently over-flowing Dartmouth Dam.

Nineteen entries have been received for the NSW Rally Championship, including Tim Wilkins, Riley Walters, Jody Mill, Miles Sandy, Chris Stilling, Tony Sullens, Josh Redhead and Tom Dermody.

Front runners in the VRC are expected to be Darren and Arron Windus in a pair of Ford Fiestas, while Brendan Reeves and Adrian Stratford will resume their battle for two-drive honours in their Datsun 1600 and Toyota Corolla.

The rally also includes the Mitta Masters Rally, and is a round of the Victorian Club Rally Series, of which 19 entries have been received.
